Man U stars put the boot into arthritis
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Gary Neville, John O'Shea, Darren Fletcher and Mikael Silvestre (pictured left to right) all autographed the Big Foot, which will be auctioned off on behalf of arc , the fourth biggest medical research charity in the UK.
Manchester United stars gave an extra kick to a national charity's "feet first" awareness campaign at Old Trafford- with the help of a giant foot.
Medical research charity the Arthritis Research Campaign (arc) is highlighting the need for people to take better care of their feet - and avoid developing arthritis in later life.
Footballers are particularly at risk of developing osteoarthritis, especially in their knees, feet and hips, often years after they've hung up their boots - as a result of acute knee injuries during their playing careers.
Ex-players such as Mick Channon, Bob Wilson and Tommy Smith all suffer from osteoarthritis, which affects more than two million people in the UK. Two-thirds of people over 60 suffer from the condition, which leads to stiff, painful joints.
The charity is advising the public to wear trainers and comfortable low-heeled shoes to prevent painful foot problems and back pain associated with high heeled, tight-fitting shoes.
