New back pain back study gets the go-ahead

Reproduced from Issue 106 of Arthritis Today

A team of doctors, physiotherapists and scientists in South London are setting up an important new study to investigate the role of stomach and back muscles in low back pain.

Physiotherapist Iain Beith, of the physiotherapy division in the Guys Campus of King's College, will run the project with a £125,582 grant from arc over two years.

The aim is to establish the relationship between muscles and back pain, and ultimately to design better exercise regimes for people with low back pain; restoring muscle function and overcoming disability.
