Leaving a legacy

Arthritis may not kill,
but it does take lives.

Your support is needed

arc is totally dependent on donations and legacies from the public.  In fact, around 70% of our income derives from gifts left to us in Wills by generous supporters.  This means that for every 10 people we are able to help, seven of them were helped as the result of a legacy.  Read about three of the people we’ve been able to help – Holly, Anna and Norman.

Why make a Will?

Many people wrongly assume that upon their death their estate will automatically go to their nearest and dearest.  This isn’t necessarily the case.

If you have not made a Will, your survivors – family and friends – may experience difficulties.  Your estate will be divided by the law and not by your wishes.  If you have no family, everything you leave will go to the state.

Drafting a Will is surprisingly easy and inexpensive.  For a small fee a solicitor will ensure that all your beneficiaries will inherit exactly according to your wishes. For more information on how to leave a legacy please click here.

A message from Fergus Logan, arc Chief Executive

Fergus Logan - arc Chief executiveLegacies are a very important part of our income.  Each year, around 70% of arc’s work is funded by gifts left in the Wills of generous supporters who wish our valuable work to be carried on even after their lifetime.  Each generation has benefited from the generosity of those who have gone before – imagine life without joint replacements, more effective pain relief or the new generation of drugs which can take some people from the wheelchair to the tennis court in a matter of days – all of which have been made possible by research funded by the generosity of our legators.

We are always looking at new and exciting areas of research, like gene or stem cell therapy.  We hope these will lead to completely new treatments such as cartilage transplants for people with osteoarthritis.  This research may be at the cutting edge of science now, but our aim is to develop from it the standard treatments of the future.  We can only do this with your help.

Thank you.
